Clowbridge School became part of the Parish of Goodshaw only in 1925, until when it had belonged to the Parish of St Leonard, Padiham. It served as day school, Sunday school and as the mission church of St James until it was finally closed in 1963.

Boiler damages stop mission services
Following frost damage to the heating system at St. James' Church, Clowbridge, services at the mission have had to be suspended for the time being.
The vicar of Goodshaw, the Rev. F J Gilbert, said Sunday's communion service at the mission was postponed when the feed pipe to the boiler was found to be frozen. It was then considered unfair to expect people to trudge through the snow to sit in an ice-cold building. Subsequent investigation revealed far more extensive frost damage, with one section of the boiler affected and six lengths of piping inside splt. Services are continuing as usual at Goodshaw Parish Church, where water is having to be carried to keep the heating system going.
