LANCASHIRE FAMILY HISTORY AND HERALDRY SOCIETY

Rossendale Branch Newsletter August 2000

Frank Hargreaves ...... Memorial

Frank died in November 1998 aged 74. He had for many years been Project Organiser for the Rossendale Branch, until ill health forced him to give up a this pursuit. In his memory the members of this Branch have purchased the Phillimore Atlas and Index, 2nd edition; edited by Cecil Humphrey-Smith. which has been added to our library stock. This very fine book comprises maps of the pre 1832 parishes of England, Wales and Scotland. At the rear of the book there is an index taken from a Gazeeter of 1834. Each parish is shown together with a listing which indicates original registers, years covered by the IGI, local marriage indexes, copies of registers and non-conformist registers held at the Public Record Office.

The Family History section consists of 7 microfiche readers, 5 film readers and a reader-printer. You can have east access to all the Civil Registration Indexes from 1837 - 1966 on microfiche. Also available on fiche is the IGI and all our project fiche. The 1881 census is available on CD and the Vital Records Index is on order.
