Beulah United Methodist Church

Rochdale Road & New Line Bacup

Beulah church came into being when, in 1851 Waterside Methodists took a decision to start a Sunday School at Brittania. The first meeting was held in a cottage on Rochdale Road at the bottom of Sutcliffe Street and later moved to a building known as "Th'up Steps chapel".It remained there for thirty years until the chapel eventually became to small. It was resolved to build a new chapel, with work starting at Easter 1885.

The new chapel held it's first service on 5th March 1885, with the building having cost £2,755 and was able to seat between 400 and 450 scholars.

The church was burned down in 1892. Rebuilding started in November 1893 and would cost £1367-15-0d. The first srevice in the church was held on 24th July 1894.
